It is adapted to the super-humid zone and is resistant to yellow-spot. It is recommended for early and middle harvest in B and F soils and for early harvest in H soils. M 657/66 is a rich variety with average cane yields. It is susceptible to smut. It shows wide adaptation and is recommended for harvest in F and H soils throughout the season and middle to late harvest in all other soil types except L1 and L2 soils.

Citation : Soopramanien, G. C.; Goolamhossen, M.; d'Espagnac, M. A. L.; Julien, M. H. R.; Effect of ripener Polado on sugar cane in Mauritius; 1982
Abstract : The new and cheaper ripener Polado has been tested in small and industrial scale trials. Rates of product ranging from 0.25 to 0.55 kg a.i. per hectare increased sucrose content and juice purity significantly in all trials with varieties S17, M13/56 and M93/48. The effect on growth at lower rates of the product is not marked. The results are discussed in terms of optimum time of application and harvest.
