Abstract : Molecular diversity was analysed among 162 clones of sugarcane using DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (FRLP). One hundred and nine of them were modern cultivars of interspecific origin; most of them were bred in Barbados or in Mauritius. Fifty

Title : Incidence and serotyping of Xanthomonas albilineans in sugarcane variety M 695/69
Year of publication : 1999
Keywords : SUGARCANE; VARIETIES; DISEASES; M695/69; XANTHOMONAS ALBILINEANS; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Medan, H.; Permalloo, G.; Saumtally, S. ; Incidence and serotyping of Xanthomonas albilineans in sugarcane variety M 695/69 ; 1999
Abstract : Leaf scald infection in sugarcane variety M 695/69 was determined by stalk-blot on selective medium. The disease was distributed in all sectors of the island. Forty-one of the 57 fields surveyed were infected with a peak incidence (48 per cent) in an 8th ratoon crop. Serotyping of Xanthomonas albilineans isolates from M 695/69 collected during the sampling showed that 77 belonged to the Mascarene serotype and only two to the African one. The use of the stalk-blot method to quantify leaf scald incidence and the distribution of the disease in Mauritius is discussed.
